2012-09-26T19:12:35Z Souza, Edivanio Dias, Eduardo José A considerable part of the epistemological studies in the field of Information Science, in Brazil, bears on a vector interdisciplinarity. However, some cases betray the difficulties of disciplinary integration and epistemological consolidation. These are based on construction of bibliometric indicators, excluding the discourse functions that reflect the sense effects arising there from. The objective of this paper is to understand the implicit and latent effects in the constitution of this discourse and the potential epistemological barriers to the consolidation of Information Science. The analytical corpus is based on 12 articles selected from the scientific Brazilian production which discuss the disciplinary integration in Information Science. Selection of the articles was based on an analysis developed in a previous phase of this research, seeking the construction of its object and discursive processes. The analysis and discussions were based on discourse analysis of French tradition. The discourse of interdisciplinarity, in information science, is permeated by more than one discursive formation, but is anchored by the dominant discourse which has as its vector the determinations of the informational development mode. This discourse uses naturalizing and generalizing strategies to mask its ideological contour. The fragility in the processes of disciplinary integration translates itself into a difficulty in the epistemological establishment and consolidation of Information Science.
2012-09-26T19:05:41Z De Lima, Maycke In this article it was studied the scientific collaboration networks formed from a group of researchers linked to the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geociências da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (PPGGeo/ UFRGS), based on a theoretical-methodological approach known as social network analysis (SNA), considering some concepts from Pierre Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice, and focusing on the identification, characterization and the structural evolution of scientific co-authorship networks. Three networks were built based on data from the CAPES’ Cadernos de Indicadores related to the intervals 1998-2000, 2001-2003 and 2004-2006. The results characterized the structure of the networks, comparing them, focusing on their connectivity and centrality, taking into consideration the research lines, projects and groups of actors. The networks of 1998-2000, 2001-2003 and 2004-2006 had, respectively, 524 actors and 11.296 links; 576 actors and 14.674 links; 741 actors and 14.188 links. It was found that the central/dominant group of actors in the networks is formed mainly by teachers and, in general, this group tends to remain in the central/dominant positions over the years; it was also found that there are partnerships recurrences in the scientific knowledge production in the three networks, culminating in a social reproduction of the co-authorship network structure.
2012-09-26T18:56:23Z Gasque, Kelley Cristine The objective of this paper is to present the results of a PhD degree research carried out for identifying the type of relation between the reflexive thinking, as proposed by Dewey (1910) and the competencies used in searching and using the information in the scientific communication by education researchers and master and doctorate degree students. The theory lain down by Glasser and Strauss guided the methodological procedures for the research. Zeichner’s and Liston’s (1985) indicators of reflexive activity enabled to verify the type of the researchers’ thought. The results show that a major part of the thought utilized in search and use of information is a non-reflexive type. The information literacy is influenced by experiences and feelings concerning research on basic education, on graduation, as well as by sharing projects of scientific initiation. Influence is also had by academic culture, teachers’ attitude in relation to the search and use of information, concept of teaching-learning, infrastructure and costs of information. The relations present in this research are of multi-referential nature, what demands interdisciplinary instruments for solution of the problem.
A utilização das estatísticas criminais no planejamento da ação policial: cultura e contexto organizacional como elementos centrais à sua compreensão
2012-09-26T18:51:43Z De Azevedo, Ana Luísa Riccio, Vicente Ruediger, Marco Aurélio The use of information on the planning of police activities is one of the core issues concerning the debate on the contemporary public security paradigms. Thus, the criminal statistics are an important instrument in this process. This article promotes a discussion about the usage of criminal statistics as a source of information in their planning actions. Three variables were considered on the paper’s development: the contemporary policing paradigms; the usage and the functionalities of criminal statistics in their planning activities; and the usage of criminal statistics by law enforcement officers and their organizational context. As a conclusion, the paper considers the necessity to observe the culture and structure of police institutions as a key element in a model of policing based on intelligence, pro-activity and crime prevention.

2012-09-26T18:14:29Z Gibrowski, Cristina This article presents a bibliometrical analysis held in the field of Agricultural Science in the subdivisions of Agronomy, Multidisciplinary Agronomy, Political and Economical Agronomy, Science of Soil, Agricultural Engineering and Horticulture. This paper uses the Article Influence Score of the Institute for Scientific Information published in the “Journal Citation Reports” in 2009, as the parameter to define the titles of the most important periodical with the goal of identifying which magazines didn’t have sequence of subscriptions in the change of the printed collections of the Universities into the Electronic format of the CAPES’ Periodical Portal. A descriptive methodology is presented with a quantitative approach. This work analyses 152 periodicals and checks the information through the CCN and the CAPES’s Periodical Portal websites in relation to the presence or the absence of titles in the collections. It analyses that 50% of the titles are both part of the CCN and the CAPES’ Periodical Portal, 25% of the titles are only on the CCN and 5% of them are missing in both websites. This work reports that 5 of the 152 titles analyzed showed aboveaverage influence and are present both in the Portal and the CCN. It analyses that 139 titles present in the CCN and/or the Portal recorded below average influence. A list of the five most influential journal titles are provided at the end.
2012-09-26T18:14:25Z Fonseca-Mora, Carmen García-Barroso, Lorena Mass media have a central role in transmitting culture. In fact, they have become handy relevant tools for learning a foreign language due to their ability to transmit both direct and indirect information. Mass media that broadcast or publish in Spanish have helped to unify the language in a basic neutral Spanish, fostering better reading and writing competences and self-esteem increase among the Hispanic population, at the same time making this population more visible. The main aim of this study is to analyze what motivates North American students to select Spanish as a foreign language. For this purpose, the number and types of mass media published in Spanish in the geographic context of the survey informants have been studied, as well as the use the students make of media. Furthermore, an adaptation of the questionnaire by Ramírez (1992) has been employed to establish the socio-cultural competence of North American students studying at two Spanish universities. The analysis of the survey results reveals that mass media have a high impact on the social motivation to learn Spanish as a foreign language of these students, that is to say, the possibility of working with and assisting the Hispanic population is rated as a main career opportunity. Mass media show the importance that Spanish is acquiring in other formal contexts of American life and constitute a nexus between cultures. They have also conquered students of Spanish as a foreign language as an audience, as they consider media an important source of linguistic and cultural input
2012-09-26T18:04:55Z Francelin, Marivalde Moacir Kobashi, Nair Yumiko The purpose of this work is to analyze the theoretical foundations of the concept present in articles of Brazilian researchers in the field of information and knowledge organization. The proposal aimed to compare, systematically, the discourses about the concept and systems of concepts in this area. The approaches were performed through the analysis of scientific literature on the subject. It is assumed that the researchers develop their discourses based on a set of theoretical and methodological influences that identify them with a particular line of thought. In scientific space, therefore, an article is not a solitary entity, but it participates, along with other items, in the whole literature on a topic. The research universe was composed of Brazilian on-line journals of Information Science from the period 1972-2009. It was onoticed that what predominates in methodological studies are the Analytical Theory of Dahlberg’s Concept, Ranganathan’s Theory of Faceted Classification, Wüster’s General Theory of Terminology of and Guarino’s Ontology. In theoretical articles the Communicative Theory of Terminology and Socioterminology predominate. It was also noted that many articles have uncritically adopted the positivist model, without questioning their philosophical and theoretical bases. The conclusion is that the area of Information and Knowledge Organization must critically discuss the different theoretical and methodological proposals on the concept, comparing the positivist perspective with the pragmatic approaches of the Communicative Theory of Terminology and Socioterminology.
Análise do domínio organizacional na perspectiva arquivística: um estudo baseado na metodologia proposta por Designing and Implementing Recordkeeping Systems, DIRKS
2012-09-25T19:53:42Z Dias, Célia da Consolação Alvarenga, Lídia This research aims to study forms of DIRKS Methodology – Designing and Implementing Recordkeeping Systems, for designing of an organizational domain. The assumptions of this research are: the collecting of the entities of a domain is prior to its organizational structure; the organizational domain is essential to create the necessary tools for a recordkeeping system; the functional approach proposed, and implementing of the DIRKS provides its context and the necessary guarantees to validate tools for document management systems. This work aims specifically to map the entities present in the data collection forms of DIRKS Methodology. It has analyzed eight (08) forms, used in implementing the project of development of management tools, such as: document classification schemes, tables of temporalities, in the context of records for the activities of the Executive Branch of the Brazilian State of Minas. Its methodology consists of twelve (12) steps that extend from the process of identifying entities in the form fields to their mapping into a categorical system using the key categories of Ranganathan. For layout of the categorical system protégé software was used. As result a categorical system that represents an organizational domain is founded. The results were analyzed and discussed in the context of document management, occasioning reflections on the analysis and design of organizational domains from the records management point of view.
2012-09-25T19:11:03Z Cordeiro, Aline Freitas, André Luís Nowadays software has been recognized as an important tool to support various activities and decision making. However, there are several reports regarding failures on development of software projects. In this scenario, the phase of requirements elicitation, allied to users’ satisfaction, has been highlighted as leading to the improvement of the software development process. Thus, the main issue presented by this article is defined as follows: How is it possible to assess the quality of software product from the initial stages of design, so we can make improvements with less effort? This article proposes a methodological approach for prioritizing software requirements and evaluating the quality of software products according to the users’ perspective. In particular, such approach proposes the use of Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and the 100-points method for prioritizing the requirements, and the use of IPA and the continuous scale for doing the performance evaluation stage. By conducting a case study, the proposed approach was applied to a software development project for human resource management. By doing so, users’ evaluations were collected, the software requirements were prioritized according to their perspectives and relevant actions were suggested in order to improve the quality of the software. It is believed that the proposed approach may be suitable to the development of small software products.
2012-09-25T18:53:21Z Bufrem, Leilah Santiago Arboit, Aline Elis Sorribas, Tidra Viana The objective of this study is to present the results of a reading of the elements of Bakhtin’s theory of the circle applied to the concepts on the area of Information Science, as expressed in the journal literature of the field. An analysis is made of how the authors report to Bakhtin’s Circle, how the concepts are elaborated and which possibilities of interpretation are offered. Analysis of the authors’ citations of the Circle are used as a method for building up a corpus, from which data are taken that support the processes of systematization, analysis e interpretation of the results. A qualitative and wide analysis is made about the aspects that jointly offer possibilities of application of Bakhtin’s Circle theory to the domains of Information Science. A trajectory allows the following up of a conscious understanding of the categories of analysis, emphasizing the statement when they are taken over by the participants of the process of cognitive construction of Information Science. The processes of information and language are also discussed in the dialogue of analyzing the data. Analyzing Bakhtin’s Circle authors, one can see that a social and historically contextualized conception of the processes related to the theories and practices of knowledge organization and representation is stood by.

2012-09-24T19:58:02Z Barreto, Aldo This miraculous light of the morning gave to the scenario, already planetarium, a transfigured appearance, of a colorful immaterial picture"1 this phrase of the poet indicates the aim of the paper to deal with imaterial information meanings that are symbolically significant and that are disseminated both via one physical base and one flow connecting the generator and a a receiver of an content. An statement of significance is always proper of an author, but when is distributed associates in its amplitude the readiness condition from the receiver and his own interpretation. A text is made of multiple narratives of immaterial significance until it reaches the receiver as it is intended for him, the reader with all his life references. Its our statement that the purpose of an immaterial content is not bound to its origin but to its destination.
2012-09-24T19:47:40Z Barreto, Aldo The information production as it is processed today is proper of a culture of many voices speaking and it is transforming the language of texts to a hypertext format. This article analyses and compares linear and digital documents. Currently intensive technologies are definitively inserted in the context of thoughts and acts of information. The users now with the web are placed facing the great archive of humanity and they are sailing with instruments infinitely more correct than the astrolabes of maritime navigation. Digitally formated documents increase the access and inclusion into the information world. There are an economic and document acces motive indicating that tomorrow documents will be in its majority digitally formatted. In this article, writing in the Internet is seen as changing the structure of language adding to the text content an image, a video, a sound and other conditions that approach to the way authors think and orality.
2012-09-24T19:37:54Z Barreto, Aldo The free flow of information extended and with fair distribution has been a dream of several men. The hipertextual net of the universal document was one great idea since the Academy of Lynx, perhaps the oldest scientific society from 1603. We intend to describe this theme showing that exists people in knowledge nets since the XVII century going to European groups like the French Diderot and D'Alembert and the Belgians Paul Otlet and Henry de la Fonteine . We arrive at the techno utopia as the Society of Nets with its structure of mosaic of the hypertext that will be the actual document responsible for the worldism of knowledge.
